CNC Field Service Engineer



Highland CNC Services is a family-owned company headquartered in Western Montana. We serve CNC shops and fabrication shops in the Western USA and strive to provide exceptional service. Our customers rely on their high-end equipment to keep their production going, and we are there to assist them with their maintenance and repair needs. We work directly with machine shops providing preventative maintenance, repair, troubleshooting and installation. From traditional lathes to complex 5 axis machining centers, we support a wide range of equipment and industries.


Role Description


We are seeking full-time CNC Field Service Engineers to support our customers in the Western United States. The amount of travel will be determined according to the home base location. We are looking for experienced engineers (5 years of experience) or technicians with a strong electrical and mechanical background.
The CNC Service Engineer plays a critical role in supporting customers through the installation, maintenance, and repair of CNC machinery. This position blends hands‑on technical expertise with strong customer‑facing communication. The ideal candidate is resourceful, analytical, and comfortable working independently in the field.


Key Responsibilities


Install, commission, and calibrate CNC machines at customer sites
Diagnose mechanical, electrical, and control‑system issues using schematics, diagnostic tools, and software
Document all service activities, including parts used, labor hours, and customer interactions
Perform Preventative Maintenance on CNC and other manufacturing equipment
Self-directed travel to customer sites
Communicate efficiently and professionally with customers and ensure service commitments are completed as scheduled
Maintain a strong focus on safety, cleanliness, and organization while working on customer shop floors


Qualifications


·       Must be able to travel during the work week, over the weekend occasionally
·       Ability to troubleshoot and wire power and control systems (AC/DC, 12V-480V)
·       Strong mechanical knowledge with the ability to troubleshoot and repair complex machinery
·       Familiarity with hydraulic and pneumatic systems
·       Good understanding of PLC ladder logic
·       High school diploma or higher education
·       Knowledge of Fanuc, Mitsubishi or Siemens controls is a plus
·       Valid driver’s license


Pay and Benefits


Pay: $35-$50 per hour, depending on experience
